Michael Karnjanaprakorn asked me to team up with him designing their new feature that allows any member to join groups around similar professional interests. Think of it as the “Slack for Professional Interests.”
For six weeks I worked closely with the Mobile Director and Product Manager to define the user flow, strategize the content and design the interface.
GETTING STARTED
Design Process
When starting on a project, I usually stick to a routine / design process that makes my designs be as consistent as possible. No matter what kind of a project it is, I stick to these golden 5 steps:
Research
Userflow
Wireframing
Design
Testing
01
Research
Since I’m the only designer who worked in the team and there’s no ux-researcher who could do full-scale research, so I took the initiative and created a quick sprint in order to learn more about the market, product, target audience and competition.

02
Userflow
When I started the project, I defined a simple user flow to begin the process and asked a lot of questions to Hiretual team. The team asked me to explore those answers and turn it into some possible ideas.
03
Wireframing
Working with data collected during the research phase, I was able to set up user flows which we reviewed with the team. After that, we continued with the first version of wireframes.
04
Design
After finalized the wireframe and created low-fi prototype based on the IA and flow we had via Invision, we play around with some colors and visual elements. We tried a lot, following the guide we had on the first step, gradient color, some 3D pattern, and product visualization with 3D illustration.
05
Testing
I used Figma to handle feedback, communication and make prototypes. Usually, I’d upload the latest version of the wireframes (and later on designs) and record voice-over videos to walk Kemar through all the new changes and updates.
GETTING STARTED
Results
Two weeks toward the end of the project, the Skillshare team finally had some solid decision for the MVP. They wanted to launch the feature as soon as possible, to test the water. So, they decided to withdraw some of the details and put it in an icebox.

“Faiz’s craft and adaptability allowed us to test new ideas quickly and iterate towards short and long term goals. A real pleasure working together.”

Conclusion
I’m grateful for meeting Kemar and working with him together with our team. I personally learned a ton about the process, cooperation and the sneaker market. I also learned quite a bit about myself.
Built to validate a customer idea, the prototype eventually helped the entrepreneur behind this project pitch his idea for a successful seed round.
During the second year of our partnership, Flip was lucky enough to get invited onto Planet of the Apps — a series about apps and their creators produced by Apple.
